Ferguson hails perfect day

Ferguson saw Craig Mackail-Smith, Tommy Rowe, Lee Tomlin and James Wesolowski score second-half goals in the first home game of his second spell at the helm.

"Obviously I couldn't have asked for any more than getting a win in my first home game back here," said Ferguson. "As long as we keep things tight defensively we will always have a chance in a game because in people like Lee Tomlin and George Boyd we have players that can open a can of beans, and once we get in front we make things very difficult for teams who have to chase the game against us.

"We could probably have scored more goals but I'm really pleased for the players and pleased for the supporters. It turned into a very good day."

Ferguson praised new recruit Tom Kennedy for his debut display. The left-back is on loan from Leicester until the end of the season.

He added: "I was well aware that we needed to strengthen in that position and we are delighted to have Tom on board. He showed what he is about and will be a good player for us."
