Peterborough United will be happier with the point they gained towards their safety target to avoid relegation from the Division Two in this bore 0-0 draw against Colchester at Layer Road.
The game was going nowhere, with very little of note happening and only sprung into life when Colchester striker Wayne Andrews was sent off. Andrews appeared to kick out after centre-half Arber stood on him.
The ten men of Colchester reacted best to their setback and made clear chances at last with Posh failing to make their numerical advantage pay.
Despite the inventive play of Calum Willock for Posh and Craig Fagan and Gavin Johnson for Colchester it was a day the keepers will want to remember more.
Simon Brown of Colchester had to make a couple of fine saves to deny Willock and Newton in the second half as well as Farrell in the first half.
Posh keeper Mark Tyler denied Stockley a spectacular winner with the save of the game, tipping his effort over the bar.
Willock had the lionshare with chances for Posh but failed to trouble Brown sufficiently in the second half.
Afterwards Barry Fry, the Peterborough boss, said it was two points lost rather than one gained but was not resigned to relegation with seven games to go.
"Our shooting was woeful today. I think we had enough chances to win the game and be going home with all three points. It was the same last week against Tranmere. We had all the play and all the chances and it was 0-0.
"It is a very frustrating time for us playing 30 minutes against ten men and not winning. We need someone to score goals for us." Colchester boss Phil Parkinson had no complaints over the sending off of Andrews but felt Colchester should have had a penalty when Gavin Johnson was felled by Simon Rea in the second half.
He said: "It certainly looked like a penalty. We were all baffled he didn't give it.
"I think that after Wayne was sent off the lads were tremendous.
"The lads were absolutely superb. But these moments of petulance have cost us this season."
