Second-half goals by Mark Arber and new boy Andrew Fotiadis lifted Peterborough United to three vital points in a relegation dog fight with Stockport County - and all of it after the game was only the go ahead by referee Mark Cooper following three morning pitch inspections.

Stockport player-manager Carlton Palmer, who missed the action through suspension, was less than impressed with the London Road conditions and went straight into discussions with his directors after the final whistle.

Palmer saw his side ask the early questions as Dave Challinor's lethal long throws forced a succession of corners with Posh goalkeeper Lee Harrison making smart saves from Kevin Ellison and Rickie Lambert.

Posh twice had the ball in the net just before half time with Arber ruled off-side when he turned in the rebound from Gareth Jelleyman's shot against the foot of a post. And a minute later Adam Newton headed in from an offside position.

Arber left nothing to chance when Posh finally edged in front seven minutes after the break, the former Barnet man helping the ball the final few feet over the line following a great run and shot by Jelleyman, stemming from a well-worked short corner.

The Posh goal bore a charmed life on the hour with Ricky Lambert slamming a free kick against a post and with the goal yawning before the usually lethal Luke Beckett then did precisely the same thing from the rebound.

Barry Fry's side doubled their advantage on 82 minutes with Fotiadis racing away to round off an impressive home debut by giving Ola Tidman no chance with a well judged effort.

Fry was well pleased with his side's effort commenting: "We were nervous and edgy at the start but went after them in the second half and were rewarded with two goals.

“I was also delighted we achieved another clean sheet."
