Peterborough thrashed Wrexham 6-1 to claim a third successive Division Two victory in their battle to get away from the relegation zone.

Calum Willock was again the man who kept Barry Fry's side on course, bringing his tally to five goals in four games - and the former Fulham striker also managed to set one up for Clive Platt as Posh recovered from the shock of Wrexham grabbing an early lead.

The Welshman had goalkeeper Andy Dibble stretchered off with a broken right arm before Chris Llewellyn got away on the left and put them ahead from the tightest of 21 minute angles.

Willock headed Posh level within two minutes from a Tom Williams free-kick and then sent in a storming early second half header that Wrexham substitute goalkeeper Paul Whitfield could only push into the path of Platt who tucked away the rebound.

From then there was no stopping Posh and after a 25-yard free-kick thunderbolt from Sagi Burton made it four, Fry even had the luxury of taking off Willock and then seeing replacement Andy Clarke turn in an Adam Newton cross with his first touch for an 11th goal of the season.

Posh completed their scoring spree with 13 minutes left, transfer-listed midfielder Matthew Gill sending David Farrell away to score.

A delighted Fry commented: "A couple of away wins has brought a bit of confidence and this was a combined effort to give our home fans a victory for only the third time this season. But we can't get carried away as we are still fifth from bottom and one slip-up couple put us back in trouble." Wrexham boss Denis Smith was considerably less impressed as his side crashed to a ninth away defeat. "This is the second time we have conceded six goals in four outings and it is a worrying trend we have to stop."
