After three straight home league victories at their new stadium, Shrewsbury Town suffered their second home defeat in four days as Peterborough United recorded a fully deserved 2-0 victory.

Goals in each half from Charlie Lee and second half substitute George Boyd secured the points for Posh, who climb back amongst the League Two pacesetters

For Shrewsbury it was an undistinguished, fitful display that produced little to trouble Peterborough goalkeeper Shwan Jalal.

Despite entering the match still reeling from their 4-3 home reversal at the hands of Rochdale last Saturday, the home side began brightly.

They almost took a first minute lead when striker Michael Symes saw his close range shot blocked by Jalal. It proved one of the few worthwhile efforts Shrewsbury managed all evening.

Prompted by Craig Mackail-Smith, who grabbed Peterborough 's last minute leveller at Darlington on Saturday, the visitors soon had Shrewsbury on the defensive.

Mackail-Smith had a goalbound effort blocked, before Craig Morgan grazed the crossbar with a header from the resulting corner.

Town centre-half Kelvin Langmead brought a smart save from Jalal on the half-hour when the 'keeper clawed away a neat flick.

But four minutes later United went ahead, midfielder Charlie Lee scoring with a low, skidding drive from 20 yards.

After the break Darren Ferguson's men continued to hold the upper hand and Shrews' keeper Glynn Garner needed to be alert as he pushed away a sharp low cross from Adam Newton.

Ten minutes from time, however, Garner was unable to rescue Shrewsbury as Peterborough put the outcome beyond all doubt.

Substitute Boyd had barely been on the field for a couple of minutes when he advanced down the left before unleashing a fizzing drive that flashed past Garner to ensure Peterborough's second away win of the campaign.
