Peterborough continued their push towards the top of League One but their free-scoring attack had to work hard to break down a resilient Yeovil defence.

In fact, when they did score the game's only goal there was an element of good fortune about it.

In the 36th minute a clearance from Gareth Owen struck Craig Mackail-Smith in the face and rebounded kindly for fellow striker Aaron McLean, who cut in from the left to bury his shot low past the right hand of Josh Wagenaar.

Earlier the pace and power of the Posh front two had tested Yeovil to the full and as early as the fifth minute George Boyd hit a post with a shot from outside the box.

Yeovil lacked matching pace and power up front but they gave their all and on 14 minutes Danny Schofield met a cross from Paul Warne and brought a great save from Joe Lewis.

Sergio Torres brought the best out of Yeovil's keeper on 24 minutes, while at the other end Darren Way had a good shot well saved.

The half ended with Yeovil's Gifton Noel-Williams just off target with a header and in the second period Yeovil applied most of the pressure without looking full of goals.

The nearest they came to scoring was on 77 minutes when their skipper Terry Skiverton moved up from the back and had a close-range effort cleared off the line by Craig Morgan.

The game boiled over after the interval with six bookings, four of them Yeovil players.

Included in the Yeovil quarter was midfielder Lee Peltier, whose yellow card was his fifth of the season and will rule him out of next Saturday's home match with Tranmere Rovers.
