And the first half of the current campaign has been a stop-start affair for the 21-year-old.

"I had not really had a run in the side, I played in the Championship and then got injured," he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"I've had a few things this year as well, but now I'm training and playing regularly - hopefully it can continue."

Bennett has built a solid partnership with Gabby Zakuani at the heart of the Peterborough defence.

Posh have conceded just twice in their last six games with the pair in the side, compared to the 58 goals they had leaked in their previous 28 league matches.

"It's nice to be keeping some clean sheets, everybody knew the difficulties we had at the start of the year," Bennett added.

"I'd only played with Gabs a couple of times last year and I do enjoy playing with him.

"To play with him is nice and everybody knows the qualities he has got."
