The club have already this week refused Championship rivals Reading permission to speak to Fergie over the vacant managers post at The Madejski Stadium and media reports had suggested that Wigan would be in contact for Fergies service's following Steve Bruce's departure o Sunderland.

"We've only had one enquiry and that was from Reading," Posh Director of Football Barry Fry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"I'm close to Steve Bruce, he tells me Swansea's Roberto Martinez is going to Wigan and I believe Steve Bruce."

"He's a big name and a lot of players we're talking to are coming because of Darren Ferguson. We don't want to lose him.

"Obviously if anyone comes in from the Premiership it's mega money and all that but no-one has at the minute so until then we'll wait and see."
