Tomlin surprised by Posh progress

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "If I'm honest I never expected to play as much as I have this season.

"I try and work hard everyday and hopefully my football is speaking for itself. Basically I got my chance and haven't looked back."

Tomlin broke into the team as a right-winger and moved up-front following the departure of Aaron Mclean to Hull.

He has scored four goals in the last six league matches, but says he is a very different player to Mclean.

"I was playing out wide whilst Aaron was here and obviously I've changed into his position, but I'm not really a direct replacement," he said.

Tomlin scored the opening goal in Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Charlton by showing quick footwork in the box to beat several defenders.

The former Leicester academy star says it was one of his best strikes to date.

"The lads have been bigging the goal up, but really I was just happy to score," he added.

"I've scored a few decent ones in the past, but to score one like that at Charlton was special."
